Pan African Young Adult Network (PAYAN) leaders are hosting a webinar series about current issues related to hunger justice during the months of July, August, and September.

The webinar series is an outgrowth of discussions that occurred during the Pan African Consultation at the 2020 Bread for the World Virtual Advocacy Summit.

2020 Elections, U.S. Census Amid Uncertainty: Where do we go from here?

Rev. Quardricos Driskell, pastor of Beulah Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia; Mr. Derick Dailey, an attorney and PAYAN convener; and Ms. Sesheida Young, Leadership Council member, International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute will discuss the U.S. Census and the upcoming November elections.

Minister Kent Roberson will moderate. He is an executive assistant/associate at Smith-Free Group and an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus.

In this hour-long webinar, you will learn about the role the U.S. Census plays in hunger and it impacts communities of color in particular. You will also hear how young leaders in the Pan African community are talking about and engaging with the 2020 elections.

Justice and Liberation: Reimagining the criminal justice system

Mr. Derick Dailey, an attorney and PAYAN convener, and Ms. Sesheida Young, member of the Leadership Council at the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute, will discuss the criminal justice system along with other experts.

Minister Hazel M. Cherry will moderate. She is an associate minister at The Church Without Walls in Mount Rainier, Maryland.

In this hour-long webinar, you will learn about the intersection of the criminal justice system and hunger and how communities of color are disproportionally affected. You will also hear about how young leaders in the Pan African community are talking about justice and liberation during a pivotal moment in U.S. history and their vision for a more equitable future.

Race, Religion & Politics: The fight for food and water justice in Pan African communities

Rev. Terence Mayo, a doctoral student at Chicago Theological Seminary, will moderate a discussion about food and water justice with community leaders and experts from around the country.

In this hour-long webinar, you will learn about the limited access Pan African communities have when it comes to life-giving resources such as water and food. The panel will discuss barriers and opportunities as they look at how community needs intersect around the issues of race in America. This group of intergenerational community leaders will approach these topics during a pivotal moment in U.S. political and economic history and provide their vision for a more equitable future.
