Spencer Bachus

Representative Spencer Bachus is a former U.S. Representative from Alabama (Republican). He is the former chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over U.S. participation in the World Bank and regional development banks. He was a lead advocate of historic bipartisan debt relief legislation approved by Congress in conjunction with Jubilee 2000, leading to substantial improvements in health and education and reduced world hunger. Bachus was named Friend of the Taxpayer by Americans for Tax Reform and Friend of the Family by the Christian Coalition. He has served as a member of the Congressional Advisory Committee, Faith and Politics Institute, and honorary co-chair of the Bread Rising Committee. He is Southern Baptist.
