Bio:
The Rt. Reverend Jeffrey N. Leath was elected and consecrated the 128th Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In 2024, he was assigned to serve the Sixteenth District of the A.M.E. Church which includes Guyana/Suriname, Virgin Islands, European, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Winward Islands.
Leath previously served as Bishop of the Office of Ecumenical and Urban Affairs in Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Africa. He has served churches in New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, including fourteen years as pastor of Mother Bethel Church. in Philadelphia, PA, the oldest A.M.E. congregation in the nation (founded in 1794).
Bishop Leath is a third-generation minister, standing on the shoulder of his father and grandfather, upholding the traditions and values of the A.M.E church. He is a graduate of Yale College and holds a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Leath is the husband of Susan J. Leath, M.D., and the proud father of three grown children. He is African Methodist Episcopal. Nashville, Tennessee.
