Washington, D.C., February 13, 2024 – Bread for the World welcomes Senate passage of the emergency supplemental humanitarian assistance package. This package would provide more than $9 billion in humanitarian aid to assist tens of millions of families in need. As many as 783 million people are facing chronic hunger.
The package would also address the ongoing USAID shortfall – preventing drastic funding cuts for multiple ongoing crises. Bread now urges the House to take immediate action and pass the legislation as is.
The following statement can be attributed to Rev. Heather Taylor, managing director of Bread for the World:
“The world is experiencing the worst hunger and famine crisis in a generation. Our country must do something as hundreds of thousands of people, including children, stand on the verge of malnutrition and death.
“Jesus reminds us, ‘…whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,’ (Matthew25:40 NIV). This package is essential to help improve the lives of those who are most vulnerable around the world.”
